I like the idea, but halfway through reading this I thought that you meant that you wouldn’t know it was there until you fell in. I really like the idea of having more cave biomes. I am imaging walking in Minecraft having no care in the world and falling into a huge gap in the world and now I ably have 1 heart. I like it

Minecraft’s current cave generation already has something like that. Keeping it and improving it would be cool. Some could also have a cap of gravel or sand on top that caves in if you try to mine it.

I think this is a great idea to go up and down caves easily.

Since 1.18, caves are deeper than ever before. Building a giant staircase to go back home after a long day mining, especially if your pickaxe broke and you lost track of the exit, can feel tiresome sometimes.

Sinkholes could also have unique mobs / loot to make them more interesting!

I'm thinking that caves surrounding a sinkhole could have roots in their walls that guide the player to the closest sinkhole. That way you can follow the roots to get to it when you are mining underground in a cave, so you don't miss it.

Water lakes in the bottom, as well as vines hanging from the walls could give great mobility to players for travelling up and down cave levels in a fun way. There would also have to be decorations visible from the outside so that you see the borders of sinkholes when you are running in the overworld so that you don't accidentally fall into one.

I built a sinkole as I imagine it and took some screenshots. I hope they help a lot.
Feel free to use them as you like!
