The Pottery from Archeology has lots of potential! The pots should be able to be broken to recover the shards. Similar to the anvil, permanent cracks can develop on the pot if it is not handled carefully. For example, if you want to pick up the pot, you should have to use any silk touch item or an archeology brush. Trying to pick it up with your hand would break the pot. If a player attempts to pick up the pot cracks develop just like how a normal block changes texture when being broken. However, if the player stops hitting the pot before it breaks, the cracks remain permanent on the pottery. Say it takes 2 seconds to break a pot, each 1/2 second would produce a new cracked or chipped texture of the pottery. Additionally, pottery should be able to interact with redstone contraptions. If moved by a piston machine the pottery should develop cracks as the machine moves the pottery around the world. After 64 moves, the pottery should break. To repair cracked pots, the player can either reassemble the broken shards of the pot, or combine the cracked pot with some clay in the smithing table and then reheat it over a campfire.
To make things really interesting, the pottery should be able to store 1 item that is unknowable to the players until the pot is broken. Hoppers should be able to load items into the pottery, but hoppers cannot take items out of the pottery. To get the item, the pots must be smashed.
