Swimming in cold biomes freezes you

Swimming in cold water is such a tough task in real life, so I think it should also give you the freeze status effect the same way snow does. And of course leather will still protect you from it.

  I agree, but I think it should only happen in snowy or frozen biomes. I also think it should take a bit longer to freeze than powdered snow, like a minute. Another way we could avoid this effect is with conduit power, as conduits are used to live underwater.

  The lethargy would get wet and the water would seep into your clothes. So it might make more sense that it just slows it down.

  It also might make sense for you too still have the freeze status effect after you get out of the water since you'll still be wet. It will slowly go away, and will go away faster near campfires and furnaces and in warmer biomes. Drinking stews will help it go away entirely.

  you could also freeze by swimming in cold oceans and near icebergs

  I don't think leather should protect you from cold water. Use a boat to cross cold rivers instead of swimming!

  I think this would be great since it brings a substitute for a new liquid that hurts. It would also fit the theme 1.17 has going on since most of the stuff that has been added so far seems to emulate some other block or thing that the community has wanted. Specifically powdered snow being quicksand and pointed dripstone being spikes.
  
  The freezing effect doesn't have much use so far so freezing water would make it more common and less of a one block thing.
  
  For map making it would also be great since freezing water can recreate areas in Mario 64, Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild.

  Agreed since they add this new status effect only in one area. Would be cool to be in other snowy biomes.
