Mojang intended Budding Amethyst as a resource which you need to build farms scattered all over the world to gather in vast quantities, like ocean monuments, spawners and witch huts. Except this time, they intentionally expanded upon that idea. However the technical community pointed out that this would be too tedious to farm. You would need multiple accounts loading those chunks for minimal results, due to how the buds are placed in obscure locations with no way of modifying it without betraying Mojang's intention for this block being immobile.
My solution tries to address the best of both worlds. A way in which Budding Amethyst still cannot be taken anywhere in the world but give technical players much more freedom in farming them and make this task way less tedious.
Smelting an Amethyst Block yields Cracked Amethyst Blocks. Placing them down beside Budding Amethyst would eventually transform that into another Budding Amethyst block.
To prevent too much freedom of being able to take that block anywhere, there would be an additional block tag similar to scaffolding. Each time a Cracked Amethyst turns into a bud, that value for both the new bud and the original bud decreases. Once it hits 0, the bud loses it's ability to multiply.
This would provide much more freedom in designing farms around Amethyst, as now you are able to arrange the buds however you wish, while staying true to Mojang's intentions of this being an immobile block.
