I like this idea because tinted glass is made with amethyst, a crystal that at least should have some light-affecting properties.

agree, just imagine having a moonbase with jump boost without having visible beacon beams everywhere

Such a great Idea, it would be so amazing to be able to stop beacon beams at one spot, and still have the effect and the lazers going until then

Just wanted to suggest the same thing. Its a wonderful idea, it would be so much easier to incorporate beacons into the builds

This would be really cool and useful, as well as having unintended effects, like hooking up tinted glass to redstone and essentially making a lighthouse beacon that flashes in the sky as the block pushes in and out.

Also for a bonus effect. Using the spyglass should allow you to see the invisible beam. This could give use to the spyglass by helping you find hidden beacons.

I like this idea, with it in mind you could use this for a multiplayer world/realm to hide your beacon from players at a short/mid distance.

this not being in game makes absolutely no sense at all.

I joined just to suggest this!, there are a lot of constructions that would look better without light beams everywhere, or maybe you don't want to visually broadcast your base to other players, etc.

Tinted glass on a Beacon should hide the beam, leaving all the effects ON.

Was going to suggest this as well! This would be really helpful for themed bases where beacon beams look out of place.

Yes! This! Even if it set the beam to a very low opacity so you can barely see it, it would help the aesthetic of a lot of base builds!

Was just about to post this same idea and apparently most of the people here were too, which is dope. Huge decorative implications!

I noticed somewhere on the interwebs someone suggested that a single pane obfuscates the beam by 20%, so 5 panes above the beacon would make it invisible, but never taking away beacon effects.

This could be great if someone wants to make it look like a portal is being opened in the sky from the beacon!

This seems even more useful now that the visibility distance is increasing in an upcoming release, and will severely change builds that rely on beacons not being visible. If I can't make beacons effectively invisible by putting them at the bottom of the world, I'm unlikely to use them much in game, making wither skull farms, and wither killing farms much less useful/interesting and removing a reason to spend time in the nether. While beacons functioning as "beacons" and being visible from a great distance (or on maps) sounds great, without a way to turn off the beam visibility it will limit their usage (and therefore their fun). Allowing control of visibility would also open up a whole range of possibilities for using beacons ascetically in builds.
