    There's kind of a way to do this already. On Java Edition, just hit F3; Bedrock Edition allows you to turn on "show coordinates" to show your y-level, and Legacy Console (if you still play that) shows your coords when you pull up a map.

    To anyone saying that F3 could just be used instead, really the same could be said about a bunch of other items in the game that has been added. Maps, compass, lodestones, whatever. It's clear Mojang doesn't care about the debug menu when designing items. This is a perfectly valid suggestion.
