Sneaking is a great way to have your nametag hidden, and it works great! However, if someone wants to make a hidden base, they would have to sneak constantly when other players are nearby. It would be great if there was some way to hide the nametag only when players are inside their base or in some other hidden location.
I think the best way to go about this is to make a block that does not allow nametags to be shown through it. Perhaps a bunch of pre existing blocks could have this property, for example obsidian or iron blocks would work. Crying obsidian would also be a great block for this, as it doesn't have too many uses as of 1.16.
It would work quite simply, you could just surround your base with these blocks and now players will not be able to see your nametag through the ground.
I think this feature would be loved by many people who play on survival servers with many people, and it would not do much harm for anyone. It might be good if there was a gamerule to turn it off as well.
