Seeing as Mojang plans to give the caves and snowy mountains an overhaul of sorts, I figured another area similar to the two could use some content in the form of permafrost caves
Permafrost caves generate much like lush caves, with a hole near the surface leading inside. Inside the caves there's a lot of of permafrost, whose texture would resemble bluish-white coarse dirt. It's about as hard as stone and will need a pickaxe to break as opposed to a normal shovel, and isn't tillable. Bone blocks along with fossils can also be found buried in the permafrost and stone.
So, why would I want to go here, other than for the fossils and bone blocks?
Permafrost, in the real world is a collection of rocks and dirt held together by ice. Digging through permafrost without Silk Touch can often yield normal dirt or gravel, along with a new plant I'll get to in another sentence. As for getting your hands on the block itself, use Silk Touch on a pickaxe.
In the Permafrost Caves you can also find Iceroot Seeds, which grow into Iceroot plants that can be eaten for a minute of Fire Resistance, to help you explore the Overworld's hotter caves without needing Magma Cream.
