Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

What would rubies be used for? I think that any new ore should have a unique purpose beyond just looking cool. Look at the existing ores:

    • Coal: major fuel source, and used to craft one of the most important blocks in the game: the torch
    • Iron: mid-game equipment tier; major crafting ingredient for technical blocks like pistons, hoppers, rails, etc.
    • Gold: Piglin currency, fastest and most enchantable tools, powered rails, golden apples/carrots, bells, and clocks (that last one is kind of useless, though)
    • Diamond: late-game equipment tier, enchanting table, jukebox
    • Lapis: enchanting, dye
    • Redstone: self-explanatory
    • Quartz: advanced redstone components, fancy family of building blocks, used to craft andesite/diorite/granite on old pre-1.8 worlds with limited access to those blocks
    • Emerald: villager currency

Technically, rubies are already in the game. They're just green and called emeralds. To quote Minecraft developer Dinnerbone:

"We actually didn't go with rubies and changed to emeralds at last minute for the villager trading because I'm colour blind and couldn't easily spot the difference between the ruby ore and redstone ore until I was up close"

It's kind of redundant to have two red ores in the game, isn't it? But then again, perhaps rubies could be introduced as pink/magenta rather than red.

Lanterns, lecterns, and crying obsidian were all added in a way that brought something new and useful to the game. So before you can add rubies, you have to come up with a reason for them to exist.
