A staple of novels and adventure stories where the valiant explorers spy a mysterious dark spire protruding from a mountain in the distance, practically begging to be explored.
Near if not all suggestions related to the caves & cliffs update that I’ve seen have been for the caves, so I’m here to give the cliffs some love.
Mountaintop ruins would be just that, large decrepit structures found on mountains. They could have decrepit pathways winding up the mountain, be partially embedded within it, or be overgrown/covered in snow. They would be made of the different carved stone building blocks (stone brick, quartz brick, sandstone, etc.) and in different styles depending on the surrounding biome.
To link the cliffs to the caves, the ruins could generate inside of mountains as well, forming proper mines leading into mountains, ancient catacombs, forgotten tombs/vaults, or the hoards of ancient dragons left abandoned (or not, an Overworld dragon/wyvern boss would be neat too).
It would be cool to integrate the upcoming archeology system to enable players to search the ruins for artifacts that help them piece together hints of their worlds’ histories.
Having extremely rare nether/end-related ruins spawning on/in mountains that hint at cross dimensional travel in a similar fashion to the ruined nether portals of the last update would be cool too.
