food in minecraft has become boring and there is lots of it. food has 3 main stats in game that change its behaviour those being speed, sateration, and hunger bars.
with so little variation in food there is some food that is objectively better than other food and there is no reason to collect two different food sources because one is probably better than the other or the difference is non existent, meaning carrying the two types of food just means less inventory space.
my solution to this problem is to give food more attributes to tweak the first of these variables is what i'm calling "tolerance"
when you eat, the game checks how many times the particular food has been eaten in the last 50 time food was consumed. depending on the tolerance value of the food will reward or punish players based on how much of that item has been eaten.
For example the player that ate 5 pieces of bread will be given more hunger than the player that ate 30 pieces of bread. but because the bread has a high tolerance value the difference is less extreme than if the two players were eating berries, a food with a low tolerance value.
This will give variety to the types of food you choose to eat. while also giving a reason to farm multiple types of food at once. but for players that just want to quickly make a farm and be done with it they can simply choose a food with a high tolerance value meaning the hunger rewarded to the player is not as dependant on how much of the food has been eaten.
