The lightning rod has massive potential I believe. I believe that when lightning strikes it, something should happen, for example, a redstone signal. However, due to the rarity for lightning to occur, I believe it should do something even better!
Think to Frankenstein and how a lightning bolt brought the creature to life. Why not do the same. Yes, there are charged creepers and villagers which can turn into witches if struck, but there should be something more.
Ideas: Redstone- should send the strongest redstone signal in the game and lightning creates a lot of energy. Harness the energy from lightning to form a strong signal for redstone builds.
This could also have other effects, e.g. shoots everything out of the dispenser at one time, for example, if a dispenser is full of arrows, it shoots them all at the same time!
Creatures- like said above, it would be cool to redirect the lightning to create a monster! Instead of just a charged creeper, maybe have a super charged creeper, instead of villager to a witch, maybe even turn them into ravager. Even better, you can use it to spawn in a new boss into the game. Imagine fighting frankensteins monster in minecraft! That would be so cool.
It doesn't need to be hostile. For example, make a skeleton dog like the skeleton horses for a new pet.
