Current bartering is just "you click the piglin, hope on RNG you get what you want, then get your inventory filled with junk".
Here's my proposal.
When you hold out gold, piglins from about 16 blocks away will all gather around you and present an item.
You then have to give them a certain amount of gold, too little and they'll shake their head. You can then continue to give them gold until they trade, but under offer by too much or too many times any they walk away.
The idea then is to get items for as little gold as possible, but when one shows up with pearls are you really going to risk throwing that opportunity away? It's more skill based.
Plus, you're no longer collecting lots of junk.
I think for this system to work, they'll need to have some good animations to clearly indicate how they feel.
Other items should also work, so you're forced to choose between say you're looting gold sword and some epearls, and interesting choice on a speedrun for example.
