This is honestly a really good idea. nether fortresses can be difficult to find. this would make it easier and add a more adventurous feel to the nether like buried treasure maps did.

    Hmm.. free lodestone?

Idk, but a free one seems as valuable as emerald ore to me.

This is actually a really good idea, but a free lodestone is probably a bit to expensive to give away. To make one you need a netherite ingot, which is hard to get. Maybe there won’t be a lodestone but when you find the fortress the compass will break or something. Just a thought.

Or maybe somewhere in the nether you could find a Nether Fortress Map - a Treasure map that has a nether Fortress on it!

This is actually a great idea I agree, I know that it is hard to get a lodestone but a lodestone can't really be turned back into a netherite ingot so it is a good idea plus the lodestone is not really a game changing block, and it doesn't
really require them to remove something from the game

I saw someone else mention how it would be too easy to get lodestones then which is a good point, but what if there was a dungeon room that housed the lodestone that was way more challenging with spawners and minor parkour over lava? (Like the gold blocks at the bottom of a bastion surrounded by lava)

Good Idea, however im pretty sure Bastion Chests can have Lodestones, and both of the main Structures of the Nether having free Lodestones would make it too easy to get. However, the Red Enchanted Compass Idea would work really well, as it could basically just recycle the Locate Structure Command and use the nearest Nether Fortress as the Location it points towards.

This is a good idea but how about also having piglins giving you the compass from bartering just like how the cartographer can give you a map to an ocean monument and a map to a woodland mansion

This is a really good idea.

Also, to all the people saying that loadstones are too expensive to do this with - remember that you cannot turn a loadstone back into a netherite ingot. The only reason they are expensive is so that they are a rarity until the late game - this won't change that. It will just make them slightly more common.

Maps would be better, for example when u try to find a woodland mansion

You can't use maps in the nether because of the way terrain is generated.

Expansion Suggestion: New Item Damaged/Chipped Lodestone (similar to anvil) when a compass is used on it will just break like the Anvil which also has limited durablity. They will genereate in fortress according to this suggestion.

great idea, I think it would be amazing if ruined portals were linked to nether fortresses that fit perfectly also since they are more rare and harder to spot and more likely to be buried under netherrack this would be a perfect addition.

how ever I prefer the compass one that have the red enchantment and I think it would be balanced if it had a durability it would be much easier to implement in the game

To everyone saying it should be a map, how would that work in the nether? Like what level would the map be?

Not finding are fortress is so frustrating. Any way to make it a little less random would be great.

Maybe an already powered compass has a 25% chance of being among the loot from a nether portal ruin, and it connects to a lodestone found under the lava well in a nether fortress PLUS, I find it so hard to find nether fortresses now because of the 1.16 update!

Maybe have a Nether Map instead, like a treasure map. It could also be used to show locations of Bastions as well...

I think there should be a way to track down nether fortresses easier because they are rare but, no lodestone should be involved and there should be a map instead.
