I think this would be really really really great! I had basically had the same idea but there would be an extra slot for shulker boxes, bundles and elytras so you can fly with a chestplate.

Brilliant--you could do something similar with bundles and/or the Ender chest potentially too.

It shouldn’t replace the main inventory imo, but instead open a side menu. BTW It crazy I just thought about this general idea and came to wrote about it but then I saw you did already haha.

I had a similar idea about placing the shulker box in the off hand. My idea utilizes the function that allows tool switching from main hand to off hand. If the shulker box is in the offhand and the player activated the tool switching key stroke or button, instead of switching the shulker box to the main hand its content replaces the main inventory of the player. Until the shulker box is removed or the switch command is given, anytime the player access their inventory they see the shulker box content. Also if the player has named the shulker box the name shows up on the interface so the player knows they are viewing the shulker box and not main inventory. As the OP suggested, the hot bar should stay as the player has set it yet be able to bring content from the shulker box down to it.

This should also work with Ender chests as well.

Why is this not a function in the game?

This feels like it needs to be added when they finally push the bundle through. Whether it's this or something similar. I just imagined offhanding shulkers to be used as a way to auto pick up drops until full. Make it an expensive item craft if it shouldn't be easily available. Bundle + Shulker Box + Netherite = unbreakable backpack type thingy.

Given that the last comment was Sept of 24.

I've noticed the recipe toggle is bound to 2 keys (on PS5 console), L2 and R2.  Why not bind one, L2 for instance, to open the contents of a shulker (or bundle) as an inventory sub-menu.  Should be possible whether it's in another chest or your own inventory.  The code already exists in-game so toggling the contents shouldn't be a problem and I don't see why that couldn't work cross-platform.

    Solves a few problems:

    1 - Inventory management itself

2 - Prevents shulkerboxs from ending up in someone elses inventory when picked up

    3 - Outright theft of it's contents
