There is no current way of stopping mobs from spawning that doesn't envolve lightning an area. Some of your builds can be ruined if you want to make them spawnproof by placing lots of light sources. By making a way of preventing mobs from spawning in a big area the player has more options to play with lightning. Maybye you want to make a dark cellar and dont want mobs spawning in there. To make this possible a new feature could be added to soulfire items. For example a soulfire lantern could have a 20 block radius were mobs are unable to spawn. It can be hidden behind blocks and the radius is not affected. This feature would add a lot to this game, and would improve a lot the survival experience.
