Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Considering golems have nothing to do with the Nether, I don't think it makes sense for nether quartz to be required to craft it. An emerald makes more sense, since they protect villagers.

I also don't think players would like adding new requirements for making golems, but as you said, this could be a way to make a new kind of golem.

I do agree that the nether does not have anything to do with golems. However quarts is used in many electronics such as radios (I am a licensed ham operator). It is also used in the observer, and daylight sensor.

As I see it there are two ways of thinking about this. Either golems are machines, or they matter animated. I tend to think of them (in Minecraft) as machines (the legend is matter animated). If you were to treat them as matter animated then it may make sense to use a "Totem of Undying" lapis lazuli and emeralds (I say lapis because if you watch game theory he tries to look into the illagers and the woodland mansion and the topic of lapis comes up).

On the topic of protecting villages the snow golem can only be spawned by the player, this being one of two golems, I don't think it is fare to state that golems as a whole protect villages.

And if more golems are added (I for one want a ranged golem that does damage) the an even larger group of them could be found outside of villages furthering my previous point.

Considering they're called 'golems' and not 'constructs', or something that hints at a more mechanical nature, I lean towards the mechanically animated side, but eh, it's an interesting idea.

Well typically a golem was shaped of clay/mud and brought to life via magic. But now the word can also refer to an automaton which is kind of like a robot. So generally a golem is an animated being made from inanimate material, this has both construct and robotic implications.
