Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

I support that. Even if hoppers would only have 1 filter slot where you'd have to place an item as a template that would be extreemly strong addition!

I think it can be done with Redstone but I agree, a more straightforward means of deciding what a hopper processes and how it does it would be nice.

[I share the idea of selective hoppers with a new interface where a blocking bar allows to regulate the passage of the item or items that are placed in their slots. Once the lock bar is activated, items to the left of the lock bar selector will move in the direction the hopper is pointing and items placed on the right will move to a hopper below. In this way, a single item or several related items could be removed from the transport line and it is interesting to have them nearby without having to create other lines of hoppers to transport them.] - translated by admin

RobertoFiddler, I came here to post that exact idea. Just add one "filter" slot to the current hopper's interface. Place an item in the slot, and the hopper can automatically filter by item name, and it will act as if it were full of the item in the item filter slot. This would also make it possible to reliably filter non-stackable items, and all without creating a new block, but simply revising an existing one's interface.

I don't think that makes sense within the canon. There's no such thing as microcontrollers. From a gameplay standpoint, I think it would make the late-game much less rewarding. I also think it would make the late game a lot less rewarding. Storage systems are some of the coolest, most useful redstone builds in the game, this would basically wipe all of that away. I wouldn't mind a way to simplify redstone multi-item sorters, but not this.

I was also coming on to suggest the same thing.  Filtered Hoppers.  Perhaps crafted with a Hopper and Cobweb.  Additionally, eliminate the function of picking up drops from the ground.  Now you can create item sorters without redstone circuits and without generating as much lag on servers.
