Every since it was implemented, I've really enjoyed the villager trading mechanic, but often find it very very frustrating to deal with. because everything about the trades is so very random.
I understand randomness is a part of making the system interesting, but spending 4 hours cycling villagers looking for a particular trade is just painful and gets very very depressing, especially when you have to take a break every 9~ minutes because of working hours.
Proposal: a method of 'gifting' an item to a villager, that would increase the chances of getting specific trades.
Examples:
Give some carrots and a pumpkin to a farmer, farmer has an increased chance to have a trade related to those items.
Give some colored dye to a weaver and he is more likely to trade specific colored banners.
Give an enchanted arrow to a fletcher and he is more likely to trade that arrow type, or arrows in general
Give a sword to a librarian, and increase his chances of giving sword related enchantments (sharpness, sweeping edge, looting)
Give a stone mason some colored dye, he is more likely to give you terracotta of that color.
etc, etc
I think this would be a good compromise, giving players some way to influence the rng, without letting them simply pick trades outright.
