This is a follow-up to another posted idea on the smithing table UI.
The smithing table has little purpose beyond using nethrite to transform diamond tools and gear. I suggest adding a tempering function where various minerals would add bonuses to an item. Perhaps putting a piece of gear and an iron ingot in place of a netherite one would give the resulting gear slightly higher durability. Gold would increase the active trait, i.e. damage for swords or the tier of minerals a pick could mine. Diamond would act as an ace raising up all attributes. Other minerals could add other attributes, lapis would make the enchantments on the item slightly better, for example. Alternatively gold, when tempered on an armour piece, could ward off Piglins. Im not sure what bonus to assign Redstone and I think that *not* giving emerald a bonus would be smart as it is already a currency for villagers. Hopefully this idea gains enough head-way so as to be seen before the devs make the update final.
