I don't think it should just be a one-up from diamond. It should have it's own downsides and upsides
The upside is knockback resistance, being stronger than diamond, and if not already it could be more durable than diamond.
Netherite should be too heavy to use with the elytra. It can still be used, but it would weigh you down and make you go less distance depending on how much of it you are wearing. Along with that, the tools should have a slower swing speed than other materials. They will still do more damage than diamonds, but they will hit very slightly slower. If you really want to make it equal to diamond it could cause you to move slower when wearing it.
Because it has knockback resistance I assume it would be a very heavy material, so this should make sense. It won't be so bad that it isn't worth the adventure to get it but it will still not just be overpowered.
Some people might complain it is no longer worth digging for, but they won't be complaining when they have to fight someone who did put in the effort to get this armor. It will still be stronger than diamond.
This will leave the door open for more future ores and upgrades.
