So this isn’t very well-known, but Minecraft has different types of Air blocks. Air, Cave Air, and Void Air.
But I have an idea - Nether Air.
Nether Air functions exactly like regular air and replaces all air in the Nether. When a block is broken in the Nether, it is replaced with Nether Air.
The reason why this would be implemented into Minecraft is because of Hoglins and Piglins.
Currently when these mobs enter the Overworld they shake a bit and become Zombie Piglins or Zoglins.
This would be changed to happen when these mobs come in contact with regular Overworld Air. When they come into contact with Nether Air, this doesn’t happen.
This means that Nether Air could be somehow contained inside of a structure in the Overworld, and if a Nether portal is placed inside of it, Piglins and Hoglins wouldn’t transform when they enter the Overworld into the Nether Air containment chamber.
Additionally a new block could be added to create Nether Air in the Overworld - a resurrection of the Nether Reactor maybe?
Nether Air could be taken a step further - Crimson and Warped Fungi cannot be planted in Overworld Air, and can only be grown in Nether Air, meaning that to grow these fungi (and by extension their Huge counterparts) the player must build a Nether Air containment chamber and grow them in there.
