I love this idea! I actually thought about this, as I thought using Blackstone to make a normal furnace was weird, but I didn't think about this!

I like this idea, but I feel like it should be slightly harder to craft. Y'know, give a bit more reason to still want to craft a normal furnace out of Blackstone (mainly if you were to start in the Nether).

Maybe it could require 3 or 5 Gold Ingots, similar to the Blast Furnace? That would also give it some nice Gold accents. It could also need to be made with Polished Blackstone, which isn't more expensive, but would take an extra step, and further differentiate it from a normal furnace crafting recipe.

(I also briefly considered that it could require a Netherite Ingot, but it'd have to be a lot better for it to be that expensive xD)

It should cool slower, as the soul flame had a lower light level than ordinary flame.

@... you're right. the only fuel we have is sticks and blaze rods.

I'm going to be honest I thought of this but was planning on going in a very different direction, what if the furnace/forge had an extra slot for a bucket and when there is a bucket in the furnace it would start smelting 8 metal ore at a time and when it's done you would get a bucket of molten gold/iron in the output slot (these could be placed by dispenser). You could place the liquid and it would act like lava except if you place water next to it it would turn into a gold/iron block. This would mean you would get an extra ingot for every 8 peices of ore. It would still work like you said without a bucket, I just thought we needed a furnace with more functionality that made mining metals fun.

You can use Lava as a fuel source, and you can find iron in loot chests and from Bartering with Piglins to make Buckets, so the Nether isn't really suffering from a lack of fuel.

And while Blue Fire does give off less light, it actually deals twice as much damage, indicating that it's hotter than normal Fire.

An intresting idea would be to make the soulfire furnace necessary for smealting neatherrack into neatherack bricks and possibly other neather ores as well as being able to use the neather varients of wood as fuel.

    possible texture for it:

Also, I think that they could smelt only every object except Food or Minerals.

Perhaps it could be used to smelt the new Nether Gold block, providing a full ingot when smelted as opposed to nuggets. This would reward players with silk touch.

As an addition to this, I feel like sandstone furnaces should also be a thing. It could cook things slightly slower but act as a stronger light source.

I had a similar idea but the Blackstone furnace should smelt the "miscellaneous" category of items quicker then the normal furnace.

While I like the idea of it cooking faster and giving off less light, I still think it should be different. Blackstone Furnaces should simply be a design for furnaces made with blackstone, although it could make it more blast resistant. Whether or not the fuel source is from the overworld or the nether should determine whether the flames are red or blue. Things cooked with blue fire could still be made to cook faster and emit less light

In fact, it should just be a new kiln variant, without the need for Soul Sand/Soil.

However, maybe the Soul Sand/Soil could be used to upgrade the furnace (regular and blackston, smoker and blast furnace).
Namely, the improved furnace would have the texture of a blue fire (which is hotter), which would allow it to use tree-fungus as fuel and slightly speed up its burning out.

Or just 8 blackstone, and it simply looks like soul fire...
