If a player harms a villager by direct means (sword, bow, punching, potions) this lowers the popularity of the player to all of the members of a village, causing an increase in prices.
Firstly, Iron Golems should attack players which have a low enough popularity among the villagers. Secondly, villagers being able to fight back against the player for causing a sufficient amount of harm.
Obviously one or two punches would be absurd, but if a player is continuously harming villagers, it would make sense that they would revolt akin to Zombie Pigmen.
Perhaps the villagers might use unique combat items; weaponsmiths using a sword and armour, farmers using hoes. The villagers could also have a chance to drop these items upon death.
After a certain amount of time, not causing any harm to the villagers, popularity returns to baselevel. When this happens, the villagers remove their combat items.
Another feature might be being able to give villagers tools and armour if the player has a high enough popularity, and the villagers can fight alongside the player. This would be helpful in a traditional raid (as opposed to a "raid grinder" where the villagers are kept safe 100% of the time).
