I found it interesting that piglins and hoglins are scared of this biome without having any real reason to be. an effect on players or animals generated by the forest would give the warped forest a real reason to be explored (or avoided).
Basically, when a player (or other mobs) are in the warped forest, a countdown timer that lasts 5 minutes starts. As long as they remain in the biome, the timer will keep counting down. When it reaches zero, they will be placed under an effect called warping. For the player, warping is like a damage buff. The player's damage output is increased, but they are vulnerable to damage themselves (all damage taken is increased by half a heart). This effect lasts until the player drinks a bucket of milk, sleeps, or dies. For mobs, the effect causes the mob to become hostile, even if it normally would be passive, and possibly turn a bluish color. They too would have increased damage output, but would take half a heart more damage in fights. The only way to cure them would be to feed the affected mob a golden apple or throw a potion of regeneration on them. (It's usually easier to just kill them.)
Notes:
endermen, endermites, and striders cannot be affected by warping.
This effect could also be transmitted by warped mushrooms in an intermediate growth stage between being a mushroom and a tree. These could be called spores, and they would emit a gas that would immediately warp anything near it.
