Nether Gold Ore spawns very frequently in the Nether as of the 20w11a. The main purposes of gold are to be used for useful items like golden apples, golden carrots, powered rails, and even creating Netherite.
However, with how common Nether Gold Ore spawns, it might as well just be a Nether-exclusive ore. The feature that was hurt the most with the introduction of gold in the Nether was the rare and exotic Mesa biome, which was previously the hotspot for getting large amounts of gold. Because of the recent changes, there is no point in digging for gold in the Overworld and no point in even searching for the Mesa.
Should the spawnrate for Nether Gold Ore be lowered? I say no. Some cool new introductions to the game are locked behind bartering, such as Crying Obsidian and Soul Speed. Nether Gold Ore solves this problem by making gold ingots and furthermore gold armor accessible to inexperienced players.
My solution is that Nether Gold Ore takes much longer to smelt in a furnace than regular gold ore. With this implemented, less skilled players will still be able to access bartering but experienced players will still be encouraged to look for gold elsewhere. Nether Gold Ore should not be a way to easily stock up on stacks of golden apples without challenge. This would make sense, too, as after all Netherrack can burn indefinitely in-game.
