Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Crying Obsidian possible use (water in the Nether)

I feel that other than it’s original purpose of being a spawn point, crying obsidian can have many potential uses. One could be the ability to support water in the Nether. When water is placed on or near crying obsidian in the Nether, instead of instantly disappearing it will obtain a consistency similar to that of lava in the Overworld. By that, I mean when water is near crying obsidian it will flow as slowly as lava (meaning no infinite sources), and possibly even get a different murky-purple texture. If a crying obsidian block is destroyed, all water within its radius will immediately evaporate as normal. If water is placed on or near crying obsidian in the Overworld it will become toxic giving a poison effect to whoever may be standing nearby. Maybe in order to sustain water, crying obsidian will need a fuel source like ghast tears or something else.

    I like the idea of crying obsidian working with water. What about this idea:

     

    Crying obsidian acts like a water block in many ways. You can use it to irrigate farmland, fill bottles or damage fire entities. You can not extinguish entities with it to prevent the player to take it with them as a life saver.

    What if placing water next to crying obsidian in the Nether converts it to some kind of special water that won't evaporate even if the crying obsidian is removed? 

    If so, I could see this special stuff putting out fires, but not without a cost, as you would end up getting a random status effect (possibly even the wither effect) from coming into contact with it.  Furthermore you shouldn't be able to really swim in it- in fact, I'm thinking that it acts almost like an air block aside from actually flowing and being collectable like water...  I'm also thinking this stuff could also be used to brew luck-based potions...

    If it were to be a permanent transformation then you would be able to reuse the same crying obsidian over and over, and because it’s as thick as lava you won’t be able to really swim in it. I do like the idea of brewing formerly unobtainable or new potions from the water however, and maybe you would need to craft a special bucket to carry it as well.

    To be honest, @Samuel Miller, I really don't mind being able to use the same crying obsidian over and over as long as there's a relatively high cost for initiating the transformation- it should be something which quite frankly, is not easy to get ahold of.  The main reason for my suggesting it as a permanent transformation is that I don't want to have to constantly have to be involved in maintenance when I have other things and projects to work on in the Nether.

    Perhaps I should also add that you would not be able to carry out the transformation of water into nether water in the Overworld, as such an attempt would fail.  Besides which, you would be risking the triggering of a reverse-beacon-slash-reverse-conduit-style death trap if my idea comes through- not that I'm opposed to your idea at all...

    I do see how maintenance might be a problem, which is why I wouldn’t care if it was just the crying obsidian without needing fuel. About the permanent transformation though, the thing is Piglins can give up to 5 crying obsidian and I don’t want it to become obsolete for this purpose after only one. I would imagine the radius being at least a few blocks though, so you could cover a fairly large area and it won’t take a huge amount.

    Truth be told, @Samuel Miller, even with a permanent transformation, you would still need to renew your supplies of the stuff over time, as nether water doesn't have an infinite source, just as lava doesn't.  Besides, what's wrong with potentially using crying obsidian for this purpose in large-scale builds?  Of course, without the crying obsidian, nether water's properties could be more along the lines of what I initially described in terms of it being virtually intangible (aside from flowing and being collectable with a bucket) and giving random status effects to mobs it comes into contact with; furthermore, it would be utterly useless for watering crops in that state.  So, the presence of crying obsidian would still be a must for both safety reasons and utility reasons, and, like we both seem to agree, its effects would have a limited radius.

    Nether sprouts honestly sound like more of a wild nether plant, but that doesn't mean they can't drop the seeds of a farmable nether crop in the same way that grass drops wheat seeds in the Overworld.  Nether crops would be able to take and utilize nether water in its raw, dangerous form, though the resulting fruit would be unfit for eating. The effects of crying obsidian on nether water would in turn mean that the fruit of nether crops would be safe to eat, though for this to work, the crop would have to be supplied by nether water in its safest form from the moment it gets planted up until the fruit is produced.

    How about having the crying obsidian drip water onto a leaf block that then slowly turns into a water source block that can flow, but will only work as water in the nether if you leave it there.
