I feel that other than it’s original purpose of being a spawn point, crying obsidian can have many potential uses. One could be the ability to support water in the Nether. When water is placed on or near crying obsidian in the Nether, instead of instantly disappearing it will obtain a consistency similar to that of lava in the Overworld. By that, I mean when water is near crying obsidian it will flow as slowly as lava (meaning no infinite sources), and possibly even get a different murky-purple texture. If a crying obsidian block is destroyed, all water within its radius will immediately evaporate as normal. If water is placed on or near crying obsidian in the Overworld it will become toxic giving a poison effect to whoever may be standing nearby. Maybe in order to sustain water, crying obsidian will need a fuel source like ghast tears or something else.
