Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Furnace Variation, The Kiln!

Because Sand and clay cannot be smelted in a blast furnace, much like cobblestone, I suggest a new kiln block which is made from basalt (credit to Samuel76FR for the idea of basalt) and can smelt stuff like cobblestone clay and sand and netherrack and all the other blocks that cannot get a special furnace. it would also smelt these items quicker. thank you for your time

    It should be made from basalt ! It would give it a usage and let us have a really good texture for forges, ect

    I second the idea that it be the only furnace type block that can smelt ancient debris into scrap. We MUST have this block!

    yeah it would be great for making glass, bricks, terracotta, etc. and I agree with GONG BO-LIN It should also carbonize wood giving some nice dark textures of wood

    I would furthermore encourage that all ceramic materials be usable in such a kiln:

    Cobble ➡ Stone
    Stone ➡ Smooth Stone (includes sandstones and quartz, which are also smoothable by furnace)
    Stone Brick ➡ Cracked Stone Brick
    Netherrack ➡ Nether Brick
    Clay Blocks → Terracotta
    Dyed Terracotta → Glazed Terracotta

    I was just about to suggest a kiln! I always had a problem where my blast furnace smelts fast, but sand, clay, cobble, etc weren't able to be in the blast furnace! This NEEDS to be in Minecraft!

    I do really think there should be a furnace variant that will smelt stone type items faster than a regular furnace, and the kiln is a suitable name for this.
    However my idea of this would be a Brick Kiln (it would be a furnace textured with bricks) And it would be crafted by surrounding a regular furnace with 8 Bricks instead of basalt. This I think would be more consistent compared with the other furnace variants (smoker and blastfurnace) since they are able to be crafted early on in the game so this Kiln should also be relatively easy to get access to.

    I think it's a great idea. I think having it be made of brick would have it look more distinct, however.

    The kiln should be made like a blast furnace, but use basalt instead of iron and nether bricks instead of smooth stone. In real life, kilns are made from special bricks, and nether bricks would make sense for fire bricks, because they come from the nether. It could smelt these things faster:

    • Stone, sandstone, and quartz to smooth variants.
    • Cobbles to stone
    • Stone, blackstone and nether bricks to cracked  variants
    • Sand to glass
    • Clay to bricks/terracotta
    • Terracotta to glazed terracotta
    • Netherrack to nether bricks
    • Any new bricks to cracked variant
    • Any new stone to smooth variant.

    I think about kiln as an early game work station as blast furnace (that however able to smelt late game netherite) to build your house easier, so it can be made just from bricks and brick blocks in a pattern of blast furnace recipe.

    Yes please! But maybe it should be crafted using Bricks, since those blocks are seldomly used in Crafting recipes.

    This is a good idea, Ive been burning a ton of netherack recently trying to build a nether base but it feels like such a grind. this would make cooking more common building materials easier and more fuel efficient.

    Please Minecraft devs, this would be perfect for the Archaeology system and the Caves and Cliffs update. We need a way to speed up smelting the stone, and sand, blocks for new materials.

    Kiln is a good concept but it has to be easy to get since it would have a new purpose for another villager.

    Maybe it can be made with bricks, like many old kilns. Also maybe we can get a new villager profession that is all about pottery. Like being able to get a new exclusive Clay Pot type or exclusive Pot Shard, kind of like how the Cartographer villager gives an exclusive Globe Banner Pattern.

    This idea can be expanded upon quite a bit.

    I don't think it should require basalt to craft since that means you'd have to go to the Nether to make it, which other furnaces don't require, unless it's smooth basalt, which is found in amethyst geodes. They should add a new villager type alongside it like the other furnaces have.

    Agreed. Honestly, it should just be able to smelt everything else that isn't available in the smoker and the blast furnace
