    Originally I was thinking that they don’t grow because chuck loading but if we had a scarecrow to side load the chunk that would be good and a great idea

    this could be problematic if the player went too far away it could cold cause some decent lag

    Maybe if a chunk has been filled for about 70% to 80%, it would store that chunk. Not on servers, as things can get a little hectic on there when it comes to crops.

    Same problem, different approach:

    When loading a chunk with crops inside, the game checks, how long the chunk has been unloaded and occasionally increases the growth state

    This really discourages players from exploring other areas as your home base is just shut down when away. It's the same with Phantoms.

     

    It should be handled like in Clash of Clans. When leaving a chunk save the current time. Upon reactivation of the chunk advance the simulation according to the elapsed time.
