I don't think so, the trade-off for gaining such powerful effects on the gear makes it totally fair to lose previous enchantments.

This would be useful for the people who took so long to get good enchantments on their diamond pick

Maybe it should be possible temporarily for those who have spent ages to get maxed out diamond gear.

It is already supwr hard to farm for netherite. And you put some work to get the best armor possible before the 1.16 update snapshot just to realise that oops new better armor is out and i wasted all this work just to lose all my enchantments on netherite. Man it seems cruel to lose mending enchantments like that. I think it would be fair to be able to keep your enchants even if it involves requiring an alternative way to craft the netherite stuff that requires endgame resources

I think you should be able to keep your enchants if you use an anvil to make your Netherite tool.

That's a very good idea. People are spending months to max their tools. They should keep it!

I think, you should use an anvil. You put your diamond tool or gear on the left spot and the netherite ingot on the right spot. Then it gives you your tool or gear in the third slot, but it costs a little of xp. Like if you’re fixing the durability of a tool or gear.

This should also be true for armor

The smithing table already does this

I say add a new crafting bench which you need a anvil a crafting bench a enchantment table and 6 obsidian. The block would allow you to upgrade enchanted armor such as gold armor with protection 4 and 8 diamonds in a chest plate formation with the chest plate in the top slot and it would give you a protection 4 dia chestplate.

Um... doesn't it already do that?
