How much hunger a food item replenishes may be based off of how much it is cooked. Undercooked food gives 1/2 more hunger than raw food and overcooked food gives 1 less hunger than normal cooked food
Overcooked food is made when you leave a food item in the furnace too long and the furnace is still burning coal. It appears burnt compared to the cooked version. The sound effect could sound crunchier for overcooked food.
Undercooked food appears as a shade between cooked and raw food. It is created when the food is removed from the furnace after the halfway mark but before the fully cooked mark.
These two features only apply to food items that can be cooked in a furnace or a smoker
