Realistic boat navigation
As an improvement to the game's immersion, and potentially as an improvement to the game's VR experience, the idea of more realistic boating would be quite nice to have. The changes I request as follows;
1) Revert boats to original model shape
2) Add in an ore recipe 
3a) Disable use of boats for navigation without ores
3b) Allow an ore to be in one's offhand for extra speed
If a player has one ore, the character in Java and Bedrock would alternate between sides, and the character in VR would have to alternate for straight movement. This action would make it so completely straight movement is impossible, and movement would be half-speed.
If a player has two ores, one could be assigned to their off-hand for straight navigation which would allow for two in use if the other ore is selected. The ore could be used as a weapon, with the same effectiveness as a wooden axe.
: To make an ore, it would be rather simple; Two sticks; one in a top row corner, one in center middle, and a wooden slab in either of the bottom corners, opposite the top stick in a diagonal line.
With multiple players possessing ores, it could allow players working together to reach places faster than a single person alone. Could also lend to competitive boating events in servers which would capitalize on that idea.
