Currently fire can be lit on top of netherrack, which causes it to exist for an infinite amount of time without burning out. However, fire cannot exist on the side of netherrack; attempting to light it there will fail and trying to get it there by other means via other burning blocks won't work either. This means there is no way to have eternal fire on the sides or bottom of blocks, somewhat limiting the creative use of fire.
My suggestion is that lighting the sides and bottom faces of netherrack on fire becomes a valid operation, and such fire burns infinitely as if it were on top, so that side-of-block fire can be decoratively used to the same extent that fire on the top of blocks can be used.
