My idea for this was inspired by the well known tale of the pied piper (although I decided to make this item a flute to avoid confusion with the word pipe and make it more recognisable as an instrument). In a similar way to the legend this item's use would be to charm mobs around the player.
To play the flute the player would have to hold use on the item while targeting a mob for 2 seconds, during this time being unable to attack. After this the mob would become passive towards the player for 2.5 seconds. After this the item would have a cooldown period of 10 seconds. During this time the mob would have a particle effect of stars around their head. This effect would not work on all mobs (bosses) for obvious reasons.
The flute can be enchanted with 4 enchantments. Only one could be applied to a single flute though to avoid it becoming overpowered.
- Persuasion - For each level an extra surrounding mob would be charmed (to a lesser effect depending on their distance)
- Proficiency - The wait before the effect would be shorter for each level.
- Charming - The duration of the charm would last longer for each level.
- Allying (Rare loot enchantment) - The mob would fight against other hostile mobs for the duration of the charm.
Bonus perks for the flute include that if used on a villager they would trade slightly longer for that day (this would use 3 uses) and tameable mobs would be more likely to be tamed for the duration.
