The Shulker Pad is a new craftable block used to modify your beacon. It will require two shulker shells, three endstone bricks, and an eye of ender (picture below).
In short, you slap this platform down on top of an active beacon (the beam must be unobstructed, transparent blocks are still fine however) and it allows you to travel up the beam using the levitation status effect.
No particular size of pyramid base is necessary to achieve this effect, but the larger your beacon's pyramid, the longer the levitation status remains after exiting the beam.
The sky is literally the limit, because, well, that's how high the beam goes.
Addressing possible criticisms:
1. Jeb stated that brewable levitation potions were not added because levitation arrows are too overpowered. I can't see any way you could weaponize a Shulker Pad, especially since the beacon would tip a player off. He never said levitation itself was too overpowered for player purposes.
2. This does not devalue redstone elevators. Everybody will still know who the ingenious players are, plus the levitation effect doesn't apply to items, meaning it can only move players/mobs. Plus players would be wise to not use a Shulker Pad elevator on a multiplayer server where thieving players are aplenty.
3. Adding onto number two, this does not hinder creativity. This is a late-game, expensive transportation method, which again, has limits. Players would build things they think merit such a grand entrance.
