In Part 2 of my Cloth Update trilogy, I discuss string farms and satin.
So, the game currently has two ways to gather wool, sheep and spiders. Sheep are more reliable, however, and once you establish a solid sheep farm (which is typically pretty easy to do unless you aren't in a very sheepy biome), spider string becomes far less valuable as a source of wool. But what if string were used to make a different block entirely?
Well, not *entirely*. Satin would be usable in all the same recipes as wool, with similar yet more luxurious results. At base, I suggest an non-tiled version of the old diamond/gold texture, a bright, smooth, rippled texture that could be used in ways that the rougher texture of wool could only dream of. This would also be applied to beds and carpets (though not banners; banner patterns would make this a bit more awkward to do), and maybe even paintings (with the same number of options, but fancier pictures).
