nether mode would be a great name for this, i personally agree with this feedback because i think minecraft is just too EZ. i mean, when amplified first was added i enjoyed the challenge, but it was just too ez, i accept this challenge.

This suggestion is practically needed tbh, this would make for a seriously fantastic implementation

Just read the Reddit version of this. This sounds like an amazing idea! Hope to see this is the game.

I've always wanted to see a new type of gamemode where you begin in the Nether and have to work to get to the Overworld and reach the End. It would make Hardcore significantly more satisfying if you began your game under significantly dire straits. I love it!

I tried this with 20w06a. Lasted about an hour and a half. I started in the nether wastes, so no wood for a while. I punched a dozen zombie pigmen from a pillar for rotten flesh and they hardly dropped any. Mushroom stew was a bit part of my strategy when I finally got wood, but I ran out of brown mushrooms. The only armor to be had was the golden chestplates in nether fortresses, and it didn't really help much. Didn't find enough ingots to make anything. Found two nether fortresses, no obsidian in either. Died to a fright of ghasts and a skeleton in the Soul Sand Valley. Shouldn't have gone in that direction.

I like this idea, and it is technically possible, but the viability of it is... not great right now. What biome you start in is huge (imagine starting in Soul Sand Valley), and you need to get lucky with the nether fortress loot tables.

I agree, though a lot needs to change in the nether with this update to make it more enjoyable.

I’ve spent around 8-16 hours on two separate hardcore runs in the nether (starting with no supplies). I was able to reach a point when I could reasonably survive long-term, though the main issue with the nether right now is that a Nomadic Live-style is the only way to progress.

Theres no cobblestone or leather, so you’ll be stuck with wood tools & no armor for most of the time. No furnaces so no way to cook hoglin food (when it comes). The only source of iron and diamonds is in fortress chests, which is a lot of rng.

The main thing that makes the nomadic life-style unappealing (aside from no base), is the fact that the nether is hard to transverse. With no access to potion materials (bottles, water) means no fire resistance potions. Carefully scaling up and down the terrain is tedious, which is only made worse by the fact that most of the terrain lacks any sort of useful resources (only wood & mushrooms).

Maybe soul sand valleys could have a sort of “silver oak” tree, with stone leaves and logs that drop iron nuggets when stripped.

Absolutely! A lot of people are already doing this, and it would be easier if you started a survival world instead of starting in creative and making a portal and then destroying your portal and setting your spawn there, and I definitely agree with you

Will this transfer the same on bedrock?

This would definitely be a great addition for the Nether Update.  I tried this myself (by going through a portal with nothing but a pickaxe, later discovering they could be made with mushroom stems) and discovered that the nether was surprisingly balanced.  I think Netherrack/Quartz tools should be added along side this (I really want lot's of different tool types but that's for another post ^v^).

Now with the new update, there should be difficult generation options! Such as:

    Easy: Nether Wastes

    Medium: Crimson Forest

    Hard: Soulsand Valley

Or simply just a choice of biome! Just a thought though (:

They could call it "Escape from Hell" and it should have a Hardcore Variant.

I hope this gets added in. It sounds so fun to start off in a new dimension and this could have really good potential for any other possible dimensions coming in the future.

well now that idea is a little more viable do to more recent additions like gold ore, stone tool availability, striders the only issue is this will be a pretty bad option for hardcore as you spawn with no options but to run if you don't spawn in the warped forest as spawnrates in the more barren biomes are insane and in the crimson and wastes piglins will attack you with crossbows.  so while it is possible and way easier to survive in the nether than in previous versions it it most likely going to be very frustrating to players when they don't get lucky enough to be able to get to a suitable position.

I don't think they need to add a portal to enter the overworld since you can just get obsidian from Piglins. Other than that I really wanna be able to spawn here.

I think how you are able to go to end cities more easily after defeating the ended dragon, there should be a nether boss(maybe mom D)and once you defeat it with your best armor nether portals will work and you can go into the over world. Also it should be a hardcore world until you can make a nether respawn anchor. Because other wise, people would find them selves in the over world. This would also make a new thing to do in Minecraft, a”new” way to play Minecraft. Imagine starting up a survival nether world with your friends and having to defeat monsters and parkour through lava. This could also open up a place for Minecraft lore where some higher being tried to trap you in the nether, and you complete the challenge by escaping the nether. This is Awesome!

forget the portal piglins trade obsidian and you can also find obsidian in fortresses. But yeah just an option to choose which biome you start in would be nice

I would like to see this as a "Start in Nether" toggle in the world settings next to the seed, "Generate Structures", and "World Type". I would also like to see a "nether-world-spawn" entry in the server.properties file. When 1.16 releases, I want to host a new server for my friends and colleagues and force everyone to start in the nether. Especially with the new Piglin bastions and ruined portals, I think a way to start in the Nether is an obvious addition. In case it's not though, I would like to express how much I wholeheartedly support this idea.

We need a way to get diamonds and iron first.

Diamonds are possible to obtain by looting chests, iron is renaweble by trading with piglins. Here's my suggestion how it can look (I made it some snapshot before introducing gamerule options)

Makes so much sense, as a game rule or as the hard mode, would flip all Minecraft routine upside down, when players do the same thing every time in a new world, this would change everything and feel so new, and it fits very well as a new game rule as it was made accessible in the create new would menu so it would be accessible to everyone. This seems like a small addition but it would change EVERYTHING

Yes, then people who want to do start in the nether challenges don't actually need to use cheats or take lots of time to make a nether portal!

Honestly i think it should just be a switch in the new Game Rules menu that changes your spawning realm from the overworld to the nether, since you can then use all the other options in combination with it instead of being locked into just survival or just hardcore.

I would love this idea as well. What would be useful is a nether version of all the ores in the game (minus the Nether specific ones) and a Overworld portal can be made with ruined portals! Note: This is not yet possible for Bedrock players!

Maybe but it need nether iron and diamond ore because well other wise it is impossible to get netherite (not counting loot for diamond and bartering for iron but loot is limited to how many treasure bastion remnants you can find and bartering well basicly you get the occasional iron nugget).

I love the nether and would love to have this option in minecraft.
