For the sake fo aesthetics and a better looking world i believe the addition of small plants and features to biomes would be a massive benifit.
Things like bushes made of scattered leaves or a new block, small fallen stones, muchroom patches, fallen logs, reeds growing near water, tiny streams of flowing water, lakes, mud and more grass varients could add a ton of aesthetic value to the world.
These things would spawn at random on a basis of the game selecting a chunk to add them to, so that different sections of biomes fealt different and explortaion in general felt less repetative.
One might find a few sandstone boulders scattered in an otherwise barren desert, strangelt tall spruce trees with fallen leaves beneath them in the middle of a normal taiga biome. A patch of unique seedy grass in the plains, a very large lake wiuth new waterlogged reed plants in it, a few cut down tree stumps in a forest or many other small sifferentiations to portions of existing biomes.
The new blocks that would be added would be
1-3 new bush varients similar to the ones that spawn in jungles, possible with their own leaf block
A new reed block that grows in fresh water
fallen leaf blocks (could possibly just be podzol)
And new plants like Bracken, Ivy, Seedy Grass, Flowering Grass, Bull Rushes and possibly rotted wood.
