Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

This would be an amazing feature that would allow so many future creators the ability to make more amazing addons <3

Altough making custom blocks is already possible with armorstands and datapacks, this would be really handy. It would be less laggy and invite less experienced players to be creative and make custom blocks, last time i checked Minecraft was about being creative and making what you want to make. This would really help with that. Also CustomModelData for armor would be handy

This would definitely help out the Texture Pack Community Tremendously if they were to implement CustomModelData for blocks so this deserves an upvote from me and I will hope this gets enough support/upvotes to where The Mojang Team would decide to add this to Minecraft in a future Update.

Came here from SystemZee. It's not particularly important for me, but I know it's important for content creators, especially people who enjoy making resource packs. I know that whatever is currently used for custom model data is extremely slow, and this would be a welcome change to speed that stuff up. I might end up using a pack like that if custom models are implemented and optimised.

Would be great to have this, but it would add a ton of data to the game. Feels like the old meta data.

For the server community as well, this would be absolutely tremendous. Not to mention we would be closer to native mods using datapacks and resource packs. Imagine being able to make a custom block model, with its own crafting recipe.

    Dreams would be fulfilled..

Mojang Studios, you promised us legal mods for Minecraft and added data packages, but even with data packages, this is not possible, because there are a lot of lags in the racks for armor, and custom armor can not be added at all. Mojang Studios, fix it

    This idea is Divine.

Yeah, we, datapack makers, have now gradually got bored with lagging armor-stands for the texture and depressing ray-casting system that locates the block we have placed.

Without CustomModelData for blocks, a smooth and flexible game is not a achivable dream...

So I'm thirsty for hoping to see that CMData will be installed for blocks in the next version

If we can make Loot Tables Block NBT specific, modding is basically not needed anymore

It would be very nice! But they would need to make it so blocks keep their nbt tags when placed (which if you ask me isn't a bad idea).

This would be useful for server customizations using only resource packs

As far as I understand blockstates, it would be just a global Property of every block. Like slabs have type: [bottom/top] property and stairs have a facing property and more, every block could have a CustomStateData maybe, which is just an integer, like with CustomModelData. So, maybe add a command or another way of setting this CustomStateData property to any integer, then you simply need to link your own model in the blockstate json file for the specific block.

It could be really cool to put a CustomModelData in Nbt or BlockState instead of using item frames or armor stand.
This is a really good feedback.
I hope that this will be added to Minecraft.

They also need to remove the odd feature, then when blocks are placed, they lost all NBT, in most cases. Or they can make it a data pack configurable option, per block.

Custom blocks with armor stands and datapacks is great but flawed, as it requires entities.

Also, can you make custom block states with datapacks? Could you use that to make slabs/stairs/fences/etc...? I know this isn't the place to ask, but I'm just curious. :)

I think adding CustomModelData for blocks opens up a lot of possibilities in modding. The fact that you could create a new block only with a datapack and a resource pack sounds incredible. Please add it to the Minecraft code.

I would love this Idea, I just started creating a new server, I made I new Food Items, a Cowboy hat etc, and Now i thought, oh why dont add tomatos, or some other crops to craft my Food items, and then I realised wow, this is hard, datapacks? I thought it was just like all other CMD but appearently not, please add it!
