I feel like alot of biomes are visited once and then left lonely after the player has the needed Resources.I Think this makes choosing biomes very useless and your home really loses some theme since you have all the world's plants in your Backyard.
My suggestion:
I Think Everything that can grow should grow differently in different biomes, but the plant's/crop's homebiome should make it grow the fastest! For example: Wheat grows the fastest in normal Oak type forest biomes or plains, but it grows much slower in colder/hotter biomes. This would make the game alot better imo. Every World you make would be unique since you will have easier access to some Resources. Multiplayer would become alot more fun. Players would be able to communicate more and everyone would "need" each other more and social interaction would increase as you trade more resources.I also Think that animals should spawn more depending on biome however I Believe that is the case.
What to consider:
Now there are some things to consider for balance. The buff that makes crops grow faster in it's biome must be high enough so people actually travel there or set their home there. I would say that +50% to +100% speed would be a good idea! However if that makes the entire game too easy then the regular growth speed can be kept in the homebiome and just make it slower everywhere else! Or do a mix of both!
All and all:
I Think this is a very easy and small change that can be implemented and I hope it will be.
