Or at the very least make is so that the trapdoor recipe makes 6 trap doors, so that both recipes consume and output the same volumes of wood.

Hi! I had a similar idea. Rather than make the same post, I think I'll just comment here.

I agree with what another comment mentioned about the recipe producing 6 trapdoors instead of just two. Mathematically, it makes a lot of sense.

The recipe for trapdoors is essentially the same as regular doors, just rotated. Since a trapdoor is half the size of a regular door, it should produce 6 trapdoors, which would equal the 3 regular doors we get from the door recipe. This would make it balanced and leave the door recipe the same.

In the end, the door recipe is very balanced. A door is two blocks tall, so every two blocks of the recipe makes one door, resulting in 3 doors from the recipe. It should be the same for trapdoors.

To the developers who work so hard on the game, I hope you consider this idea! I'm a builder and tend to go through a lot of wood on these details. It would mean so much if the trapdoor recipe could be more balanced with the door recipe.

To the original poster, thank you for posting this! I hope the issue gets more attention. And sorry for my long rambly comment on your post, I'm just very passionate about these doors!

I feel like the trapdoor recipe should be a square of 4 blocks rather than 6 blocks since a trapdoor takes up half as much space as a normal door

I definitely agree with increasing the amount of trapdoors. It currently takes 3 wooden logs (12 planks) just to produce 4 trapdoors, which is more expensive than doors, stairs, fences, and other similar blocks that I can think of.

exactly! i think it's ridiculous that trapdoors, which are like a fifth or sixth of a block take more blocks from you than they give back

Given that the trapdoor is such a versatile, useful and beautiful block, I would also really like if the trapdoors became less expensive to craft. It feels quite bad to chop down half a forest only to be able to make like a stack of trapdoors.
