Chat Filter

There would be a feature in the “chat settings” menu that lets you type in specific words that would be either blocked with #, *, or maybe @. There could also be a bar where you can type in someone’s in-game- name (IGN) and all messages from that account will be starred out for you. This could solve the problem of parents worrying about what their child sees online, and could greatly help reduce unwanted toxicity. Also, it could make it easier to record videos and not offend your audience.

    I agree! This is already in Bedrock except for being able to censor specific players, but hopefully it makes it into Java as an option!

    Why though? What if you had a ww2 server but you couldn't say that you captured a base or if you're in a history server and you couldn't say julius caesar got stabbed.

    The way Mojang and Microsoft are trying to implement this is not going well. They implemented it by default with their own set of unacceptable words and did not allow the player to turn it on and off. Minecraft is not just a game for kids. For instance, if players are on a medieval roleplay server, but they cannot say the word "Knight" because it contains 3 unacceptable letters, this greatly damages the quality of the game. Ultimately, having this enabled by default restricts every community of minecrafters, and will kill the game's popularity. Microsoft is getting to be too heavy handed with their game, as they have with other games, which will lead to suffering sales and returning users, smothering the once vibrant and vital flame of the community, leaving only a wisp of smoke as the last few users simply put up with the changes and allow themselves to be controlled.

    I think this is a better chat filter than the one Mojang has put in place in 1.19.2, and would be a great thing to implement in the game instead, and while online play would be prohibited, it would only be prohibited to how the parents/guardians feel needed, or any adult who doesn't want to hear every swear word when they beat a toxic player hypixel.

    Not even a bad idea seeing as every game has this. But i know for fact Microsoft isn't gonna allow that crap to be optional!
