Imagine you're a builder, and you want to put some text in a map. You could use command blocks, but imagine you don't want it in chat- you want physical text. You have a few options: you could either place a sign, or perhaps a chest with a book.
However, let's imagine that the aesthetic of your build wouldn't allow a sign or a chest to make sense. Perhaps, you're building an ancient temple of sandstone, and a single wooden sign, or several, would look woefully out of place.
Now that there are several types of stoneworking items in the game, it doesn't seem to me like too much of a stretch to add the ability to chisel/inscribe messages into stone blocks. This could be through a chisel tool built for this purpose, or maybe you can just right click stone blocks with your pickaxe!
Essentially we can just remove the ugly sign, and put the text with the same formatting and size right on to a stone block. I guess it could even be colored with the styling codes if people are so inclined. Text colors by default wouldn't be black, probably, or else they will look weird on most stones. It would have to be a darkened color from the palette of the block its on.
In a perfect world, this could go on all types of stone, stone brick, sandstone, end stone, diorite, granite, andesite, etc.
Bottom line is, even if this only got added to one single block type, it would still be an immense help to builders who want an ancient theme.
