I think that the power and efficiency of tools and Armour should be based on how common they are in the overworld. For example, gold is one of the rarer ores, yet it is arguably the worst. I know Minecraft wanted to make it more realistic but it is a game and it doesn't have to be fully realistic. Gold tools are basically useless and even though they are quite rare, you may end up having a lot of gold lying around and doing nothing so this would make things more fair in my opinion.
