Non-fatal way of defeating Ender Dragon

To win the main game you must defeat Ender Dragon. There is currently only one way to do it: you must break into her home and murder her without any mercy.

There should be another way to deal with Jean. Killing such a wonderful, endangered creature that is a dragon in Minecraft should be an option, not a necessity.

There are no "right" or "wrong" ways to do it. To have a consistent suggestion let it be the fight we used to but in the very end you decide to do the killing blow or let her live. Anyway you prefer it. It is not so important how exactly to implement it.
