Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Replace Bookshelves with Shelves

Take the recipe for bookshelves and take out the books, that’s the recipe for shelves.

Shelves can be crafted out of any wood type, and can display 4 different items. (2 on each row)
They would act as really awesome decorations and give out different Redstone signal strengths when different item slots are changed.

Also to power an enchantment table just fill up the shelves with books.

    Sorry but any kind of furniture will not be added into Minecraft.

    Sorry Blast Burner, I disagree, this would allow a considerable amount of customization and creativity. As for making bookshelves more expensive, perhaps three books fill it up completely.

    I would agree with you Some Animal but Mojang just doesn't want any furniture in game otherwise I would be in.

    Mojang doesn’t want any furniture because it limits creativity.
    But all the shelves would do is amplify it because of the ability to actually display multiple items in the block.

    A bed is a piece of furniture, so is a lantern, lectern, bookshelf and so on. Chairs were also planned at some point before Jeb took over and frowned upon furniture, despite the game already having it. For a game that expects creativity, they sure limit objects to put inside of houses. I'd like to have shelves to display items in a more meaningful way rather than using a item frame.

    We should have shelf’s where items can be placed similarly to chests but the items show up on the shelf’s in a 3D way. You could also add books of course. They could be stacked one on top of the other, put on walls or on the floor, and they would come in all of the wood types and maybe even stones.

    I like this idea since libraries in minecraft are not really like a "library".There are so many bookshelves but you can't read the books in them. A really good concept where this has been made is the Uncensored Library, a minecraft server made to publish works of journalists prosecuted in their countries. Though the build in the server is really nice and spacious, it could really use more space for readable books... and a lot of lecterns to hold books don't really look as fancy than they are on the shelves.

    As to the people arguing about that mojang doesn't like furniture... Think about shelves as like a storage item like chests and enderchests... I mean they are still furniture. Its really just to add a practical use for bookshelves other than just enchanting and mere aesthetics.

    A really good tangent on this would be dyeble books (since they're also made of leather)... that way one could create a rainbow collection of books... or classify books according to colors...
