Each time you enter this Dimension via any number of unique 3x3 portals you construct or find, you come across a new, randomly generated Vault area floating in a void filled with treasures, traps, and dangerous mobs. Once you return from this vault back to where you came its contents are lost and a new vault takes its place the next time you enter one such portal.
What kind of vault a portal takes you to depends on the keystone block placed in the center bottom or top of the portal. The value of that block might dictate the value of the treasures and the danger of the traps and mobs within the vault and could be consumed after each excursion.
The point of all this is to offer a player the opportunity, at any time during their adventure-with leather gear, iron gear, or diamond gear enchanted or otherwise- to challenge something for reward. Before they're able to search mineshafts, explore nether fortresses, raid end cities or clear ocean monuments, during such times, and even after. Give them a high risk journey they can go on at any level of the game where they dont know exactly what they might find and increase replay value for all the explorer's out there.
