This post is subjective, but I believe that with the way kelp currently grows up to the surface of the ocean water, oceans become a bit ugly after all the kelp grows to be really tall. Deep oceans especially lose their sense of depth when the kelp from the bottom of the ocean grows to the surface of the water, and rowing your boat past tons of kelp in water doesn't feel like I'm actually rowing in a deep ocean. Oceans at the start of world generation look so beautiful with the short and varying heights of kelp, and keeping kelp near the bottom half of oceans would make them more open and less crowded.
From a technical standpoint, the mechanics of kelp age should change. I propose 2 solutions:
- The maximum height of kelp should always stay anchored at 24, without the age applied to a single kelp block. This would be a simple way of keeping kelp consistent with other growing plants like bamboo and sugar cane.
- Kelp age upon world generation should be chosen between around 17 to 25, so that kelp can grow at random heights in the oceans but still would not reach the top of oceans as easily. I believe this would be a better choice as it would keep kelp that randomly generated in the world at random heights instead of all plants growing to a maximum of 24 blocks.
Thank you for reading and I hope oceans stay beautiful if this feedback is implemented.
