NOTE: Cities will not be modern skyscraper cities. Instead, I am talking about Late Neolithic-style or medieval style cities. (Picture Jericho, like 6000 years ago. Or Greece. Or early middle eastern cities.)
Village and Pillage has missed a great opportunity: Cities or Large Villages.
Cities will be extremely rare structures that generate in the overworld.
They have their own randomly generated banners that are found around the village, and will consist of four squares and either a flower, Thing, creeper face, or circle in the middle. The squares will be differently colored depending on the city. The first square will be biome dependent (eg yellow for Plains city). The second will be white but will change color if it is the second village of the same biome generated (a second Plains village. Instead of white, it will switch to Blue, then Red, then Green, then Purple, then Cyan, etc.) The third square will be simply a random color, and the fourth square will be a repeat of the first (biome). The shape in the center will be randomly generated.
City banners generate on the buildings and walls of the city. They will each have a randomly generated name. This name will be the randomly generated name of the city, and if added to a player's map, will be marked on the map with that name. (eg. Windshaven City) The name will always have [space]City, [space]Town, -ville, or -berg on the end of the name.
Cities will have walls that generate surrounding the city. Walls depend on the architecture of the biome. Barracks and Turrets are also wall structures that generate (Turrets are towers that generate on the city and have dispensers in them that do not actually fire anything). Cities have only one opening in their walls, the Drawbridge door.
Buildings in cities will be taller than ones in villages and will be more densely packed. A Town Hall generates in the exact center of every city and is the tallest building in the city. It will look very much like a castle (picture more like the city halls in Skyrim) but more primitive. Again, the architecture and development of the cities will be very much like Neolithic Jericho, or Egypt during its Early Kingdom era, or perhaps the early Indus River Valley civilization, or ancient Mesopotamia.
City Halls will generate with a ruler, or a mayor. This will be a villager wearing a crown. If the ruler is killed, then all of the villagers will turn against the player and refuse to trade. Iron Golems will then attack the player. If the Ruler is befriended through trade or doing tasks, then the Ruler will reward the player with valuable gifts and trade prices will lower.
Instead of the stone churches found in villages, large cathedral-like buildings will spawn, Their spires will be exceptionally large.
Villagers will fill the city, At least two iron golems will be found in a city. Horses can be found in the city too, along with farm animals in pens.
Like the new villages, cities will have their own style and architecture that is biome-specific, but will be at least twice as large as a regular village, and building density will be more dense.
Buildings such as regular houses and larger houses that are normally found in villages will generate near the edge of a city. (Not sure about what other regular village buildings can generate in cities, the devs will have to decide.)
