Clarified topic a bit to separate/differentiate it from the other one. (Makes it better to search for.)

This would make exploring much more fun, but perhaps the 'photograph' would instead be a rare painting, because in minecraft the technology for photographs haven't been invented yet.

I was thinking of a "picture" - that could also be interpreted as a "painting" - Changing subject and text accordingly, thanks @Some Animal

Thank you, leondsl, for the punctual reply, I understand the way people could interpret it. Also, would the pictures always depict the same thing? And would they have biomes such as a Shattered Savanna biome or Jungle Edge biome, or just include the main biomes-Jungle, Savanna, Plains etc. Also, If the world seed does not have a specific biome, would you be able obtain the Biome Paintings? Would you be able to craft the Biome Locators? Would the Biome Locater have a chance of breaking like an Eye of Ender?

regarding your questions, Some Animal, here my ideas:

    - Either the pictures would always depict the same thing, in example, for desert, always the same desert picture. Or Mojang could hold a competition every update to make the best biome-based screenshot, this screenshot would be used as the picture for the next "season".

    - I would recommend to only use the "main" biomes.

    - I do not understand the concept of a world seed not "having a specific biome", can you clarify this? I am talking about the overworld of the unmodded Vanilla Minecraft.

    - As mentioned, the biome locators would be crafted from the picture and an endereye, either in a crafting table or (recommended) in the cartography table.

    - For it is much easier to spot a biome rather than a fortress (for it is underground), I would recommend even having an increased chance of breaking - just like the Eye of Ender.
